Cumberland Phoenix Sports Performance Center
The Cumberland University strength and conditioning facility, located at Phoenix Plaza adjacent to the main campus, is home for year-round strength and conditioning training for all Phoenix athletic programs. Athletes work under the supervision of the Director of Sports Performance, the Head Powerlifting Coach/Assistant Sports Performance Coach, and all fully certified staff of three (3) full time graduate assistant coaches.
Leading into the strength and conditioning facility is a locker area for our athletes to leave their personal items during training sessions, staff offices, and the nutrition room where we provide certain food items for the athletes pre or post workout.
Next we have a large artificial turf area designed for warm-up and recovery work as well as multiplanar movement training. This space consists of two kettlebell racks from 15-106 lbs, various types and sizes of medicine balls and a specially designed wall for med ball throw variations, foam plyometric jump boxes, various hurdles, sleds, and more. The turf area also allows athletes to prepare for performance with our recovery equipment for pre-habilitation, activation, and soft tissue work. This includes soft yoga mats, foam rollers, 80-110 lb. heavy metal tempering rollers, LAX balls, softballs, massage guns, and more.
The weight room consists of 10 PowerBlock dumbbell carts ranging from 5-175 lbs., 10 racks, each equipped with Olympic platforms and Blocks, Power bars, Standard and Women’s Olympic bars, full sets of iron and bumper plates, bands, chains, and suspension training handles. Specialty bars include: 15 lb. training bars, 60 lb. trap bars, safety squat bars, and neutral grip Swiss bars to accommodate different training variations. In addition, we have a room in back of the facility designed for workout modification for injured athletes. This room consists of a treadmill, 4 Rogue echo fan bikes, a Keiser bike, a seated leg curl/extension combo machine, a belt squat machine, a LAT/Low Row cable machine, a GHD Machine, a Reverse Hyper machine, and an extra bench with another PowerBlock cart to help accommodate the specific needs of our athletes. Â
Cumberland University Sports Performance utilizes several different technologies to assist in supporting our programs. We use the Teambuildr Training software which includes an iPad at every rack station, Vitruve VBT training devices, Dashr Timing Gates and Jump Mats for sprint and jump testing, and ForcePlates coming soon.Â
