Our Mission
The mission of the Cumberland University Athletic Training Staff is to provide comprehensive, high-quality health care to all student-athletes. Our approach is holistic, focusing on the well-being of the whole person—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Through expert evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation, we are committed to helping our student-athletes compete safely and at the highest level of performance.

What Is an Athletic Trainer?
Athletic Trainers (ATs) are licensed, certified health care professionals who work collaboratively with physicians to deliver preventative care, emergency response, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitation for injuries and medical conditions related to physical activity.
Athletic Trainers are recognized as allied health care providers by the:
  • American Medical Association (AMA)
  • Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
  • U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)
They are certified nationally through the Board of Certification (BOC) and licensed in Tennessee under the appropriate state regulatory board.

Key Position Statements (NATA)
Our Athletic Training Staff adheres to the latest evidence-based guidelines provided by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA), including:
