Cumberland Women's Soccer tops Life University 1-0 on the road

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Cumberland Phoenix Women's Soccer team got a crucial 1-0 win over Life University Running Eagles in a battle of the birds.

The Phoenix (3-1-0, 2-1-0 MSC) recorded 11 shots, with eight reaching the goal. The Running Eagles (4-5-1, 0-5-0 MSC) took 15 shots, with the Phoenix only allowing four on goal.

Cumberland Senior Defender Sarah Haddock scored the only goal of the game, giving the Phoenix a 1-0 victory over the Running Eagles. The Newtownards, Ireland native scored the goal in the 41s minute on a free-kick. 

Cumberland was on the attack for most of the game and five Phoenix players recorded a shot on goal. Among them were Sarah Haddock, Kenzi Vetter, Gabby Jones, and Haley Stevens, who each recorded one shot. Leading the way for the Phoenix in that department was Jennifer Segura, who put two shots on the net.

Both Goalies were fantastic in this game, including Cumberland Keeper Savannah Stubbs. The freshman stopped all four shots she faced en-route to the shutout victory. Life's Goalkeeper Julia Vila Punset had a solid day as well, stopping seven of the eight Phoenix shots on goal.

The teams were relatively even in Corner Kicks, with the Phoenix receiving one and the Running Eagles receiving two.

Cumberland takes the pitch at home on Sunday, Mar. 7, against Shawnee State at 11 a.m.
