Cumberland Falls in Four to Lindsey Wilson

Box Score Columbia, Ky.-- Cumberland falls to Lindsey Wilson in a four set match at Biggers Sports Center Friday evening.
Statistically, the teams were evenly matched as the Phoenix hit a .260 and Lindsey Wilson attackers finished at .239. Cumberland counted seven more digs and two more blocks than the Blue Raiders, but were ultimately unable to match Lindsey's runs throughout.
Middle blocker Hazel Konkel impressed throughout as she reached a game-high 14 kills while also being errorless. Freshman Emma Chavers recorded a double-double with 11 digs and 39 assists.
The Blue Raiders had four defenders hit double-figure digs, led by libero Natalie Ackerman with 20. 
Lindsey Wilson ripped the first set open with a five point unanswered run that gave them a 12-6 advantage. The Phoenix were limited to a negative attack percentage at the halfway mark, leaving little room for error elsewhere on the court. 
Konkel created openings by switching up her runs to find the floor and earn a trio of kills that helped cut the deficit down to three. 
Despite the offensive improvements in the final push, Cumberland was unable to recover from Lindsey's early run and ultimately dropped the set 25-19.
The Phoenix took control of the second frame with a 6-0 run that sent Lindsey Wilson into a timeout. The break proved to be beneficial for the Blue Raiders as they captured the next three points to chip away at Cumberland's momentum. 
It was a tightly contested ending, but a pair of errors and a fatal service ace ended it in the Blue Raiders' favor at 25-23.
After earning the first two points of set three, the Phoenix stayed consistent and limited themselves to just two net errors to maintain the lead throughout. With the help of two blocks, two aces, and a fantastic .375 team hitting percentage, the Phoenix cruised to a 25-17 victory.
The Blue Raiders entered set four with determination as they found themselves on yet another early 5-0 run. Once again, the Phoenix showed some offensive dominance to even out the score at 10-10.
Lindsey Wilson began to separate themselves in the middle stages with a 5-1 run, forcing the Phoenix to recollect in a timeout. The Blue Raiders were in control of the set's momentum from then on, however, as Cumberland was plagued by backline errors. Back-to-back aces from Lindsey Wilson closed out the game at 25-17.
The Phoenix will stay on the road for their next match as they head to Mckenzie, Tenn. to see Bethel for a second time this season. The game is scheduled for a 7 PM start.
