No. 11 Lindsey Wilson Capitalizes on CU Mistakes to Win 45-2

COLUMBIA, Ky.--No. 11 Lindsey Wilson proves to be too much for Cumberland as they come up with a big 45-2 win on their Senior Day at Parnell Family Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Cumberland (4-5, 1-4 MSC) could not move the ball offensively outside of a handful of plays and had special teams mishaps that led to easy points for the Blue Raiders.

Cumberland had just 187 yards of offense rushing for 103 and passing for 84 yards. Luke Holloway ran for the most yards with 45 and he completed 8-of-14 passes with two picks. Treylon Sheppard had 16 carries for 35 yards and Burge added 33 yards.

Aaron Davis led Cumberland in tackles with eight while Derek Taylor and Trevor Griffin each added five.

Lindsey Wilson went for 393 yards of total offense. Quarterback Ethan Cash slung four touchdowns on 19-of-28 passes for 263 yards. Quantae Hicks had three catches for 76 yards and two touchdowns.

Jbias Dawson ran for 117 yards and one touchdown on 12 carries.

The Phoenix held Lindsey Wilson on their first drive of the day, but Lindsey Wilson returned the favor. Cumberland's Nolan Gotllied had a nice punt, but after a penalty CU had to do it again and this time the Blue Raiders took over in good field position. Lindsey pitched it to Dawson and he got outside on the edge and ran it 56 yards into the endzone. Cumberland blocked the point after try to keep it at 6-0.

Lindsey held CU on a quick drive and after a couple plays Cash threw a strike to Hicks for a 12-yard score and extended the lead to 12-0 after the PAT was pulled.

With Lindsey Wilson driving in the second quarter, the defense stood strong on the goal line forcing a turnover on downs. However, on the first play for the offense Holloway tried to throw a quick screen to the outside and Lindsey's Chevis Elliot made a diving interception falling into the endzone for a pick-six and a 19-0 lead where the score stood at the break.

On the opening kick-off of the second half, Elijah Gaskin coughed it up. Again, it was Elliot to force the fumble and then he scooped it up and returned it 15-yards to the endzone for a Blue Raiders touchdown, 26-0.

The next Cumberland drive, CU took it all the way inside the red zone and were looking to score, but the Blue Raiders held Cumberland's offense on the goal line. Fortunately, Cumberland picked up a safety as the pressure for Cash to throw it away getting the intentional grounding call for two points.

On the ensuing drive after Cumberland got the safety, the Phoenix drove it into the redzone again before Holloway tried to throw a fade to Shaw Niblett that was intercepted in the endzone.

The Blue Raiders capitalized and drove 80-yards down the field capped with a 46-yard touchdown pass from Cash to Hicks extending the lead to 32-2.

Lindsey Wilson added two more scores in the fourth as a high snap on a punt over Gottlied head forced a quick punt that ended up blocked and picked up on the 3-yard line. The next play Lindsey found the end zone again on a three-yard touchdown pass to Devontae Saunders.

Lindsey scored one final time on a four-yard touchdown pass for the final score of 45-2.

The Phoenix will return to Nokes-Lasater Field next Saturday to take on Faulkner. Senior Day festivities will take place prior to kick-off.
