The Wolverines got up early with a 5-0 start, during which they recorded two kills and a block. Cumberland was forced to play catch up through the set's middle stages, but found their footing at the right moment with an 8-2 run to take their first lead at 19-17.
The teams were neck-and-neck in the final few points- with ties at 21-21 and 22-22- but the Wolverines made the final blow for a 25-23 win.
The Phoenix had another slow beginning, dropping the first four points of the second with some defensive struggle. The Wolverines took their lead as far as six points, but once again Cumberland came up with some late set energy to go on a 5-1 run for a 23-21 score. Sydney Eggleton helped the Wolverines to two of the final three points with a kill and a block for a 25-22 victory.
The start of set three was similar to the previous two, with the Wolverines jumping to an early lead after a 5-0 run. Again, Cumberland faced an uphill battle through the middle of the set as the frontline posted their lowest team attack percentage of the match at .091.
The final push saw a Phoenix energy surge with a 10-2 run, but the Wolverines managed to cut it off at 25-22 to close out the match.

Vs. Grace College

Grace impressed in the first with strong performances from the front row to control the set's momentum. The Phoenix fell behind by as many as 15 before going on a five point run with the help of three Grace errors at the net.
The Lancers were quick to recover and cruised to a 25-12 set victory.
Cumberland had a much better start to the second with a 4-0 lead, during which Manoella Gomes and Lauren Galvan picked up a pair of kills. The Phoenix expanded the advantage out to seven but the Lancers cleaned up at the net for a 10-1 run to flip the script.
From then on, Grace's front row was nearly flawless and helped them to a 25-19 win.
The teams traded points in the early stages of the set, but the Lancers started to pull away with an 11-2 run that forced CU into a timeout.
The Phoenix found some late game energy, fighting hard to avoid the sweep with a string of five points to make it a 17-16 game. They held out for the set win, sending it into a fourth.
The Lancers got up early in set four and protected the lead throughout the entire set. Phoenix struggled offensively with another .000 team hitting percentage compared to the Lancer's .111. Cumberland dropped the set, ending the 3-1 match.
The Phoenix look to have more success on the final day of the tournament, starting with a match against Indiana University at South Bend scheduled for 10 AM. Their last match will be a tough one against No. 16 Bethel University (Ind.).
