Phoenix Football back at home after Bye Week against Kentucky Christian Tomorrow

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland Football is back at Nokes-Lasater after picking up an overtime win at Webber on September 2nd. The Phoenix enjoyed an off week to regroup headed into this week's contest with Kentucky Christian. 

The Phoenix found success in Florida on the ground with senior running back Treylon Sheppard. Sheppard went for 140 yards to lead the offense on his way to earning Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week. 

Cumberland racked up 341 total yards on the road as quarterback Luke Holloway controlled the offense. Holloway completed 7-of-11 passes for 92 yards and was intercepted once on a pass batted at the line. 

Freshman Nate Stephens is leading Cumberland in receiving yards with 75 and receptions with four. Eight Phoenix have made catches in the pass game this year.  

The defense continued to play well, holding Webber International to 247 yards and 13 points. The Warriors picked up six points off the foot of their kicker drilling two 40+ yard field goal attempts. The Phoenix forced two turnovers in the game forcing two fumbles one from Jayden Jobe and the other a strip sack from Jeremiah Mathews to get the turnover.

Trevor Griffin was named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the game. Griffin picked up an interception in overtime and lead the team in tackles with eight. 

Transfer Dez Wallace is leading Cumberland in tackles and sacks through two games. The junior has 12 tackles and 1.5 sacks picking up six tackles in both games. Jalen Brown is second in the Mid-South Conference in sacks with two. Safety Derek Taylor has also picked up 12 tackles to tie for the team lead. 

Kentucky Christian comes into the game with an 0-3 record. The Knights have suffered losses to all Mid-South Conference opponents: the Cumberlands, No 12 Georgetown, and Campbellsville. 

The Knights are averaging just 101.3 yards of offense while still searching for their first point of the season. Kentucky Christian has -6 turnover margin throwing five interceptions amongst two quarterbacks and losing three fumbles. 

Defensively, Kentucky Christian is allowing 431.7 yards of total offense per game and are giving up on average 58.6 points per game. 

Game time is set for a 6:00 p.m. central time. Weather at kick off is supposed to be in the mid-70s with temperatures getting cooler as the night progresses. There is a chance for rain during the game which could impact how both offenses operate.
