Men's Basketball Comes From Down 18 to Run Win-Streak to Five

BLUE MOUNTAIN, Miss.--Cumberland Men' Basketball comes from down 18 in the first half to knock off Blue Mountain Christian and win their fifth-straight game. 

Cumberland (5-6) are now just one game under .500 after starting the season 0-6. The Phoenix started slow getting down 25-7. Cumberland tied the game with 15 minutes left in the second half and battled it out with the Toppers before pulling away with a nine point win, 73-64.

Cumberland 43.9% from the field and went 4-of-12 from three in the contest. The Phoenix made it to the line 28 time converting 19 free throws. The Cumberland defense continued to wreck havoc forcing the Toppers into 23 turnovers on 15 steals. 

Demarius Boyd finished as the leading scorer for the Phoenix finishing with 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting.Jaylin Anglin and Triston Conger finished in double figures posting 14 and 11 respectively. Keshawn Robinson hauled in 11 rebounds.

Blue Mountain Christian (4-8) shot 41.4% from the field and went 6-of-21 from three. The Toppers out rebounded Cumberland 41-to-27 in the game. The Tioppers had two players eclipse 20 points led by Rameon Witt Jr. with a 21 point, 15 rebound double-double and Jason Hunt with 21 points. 

The start of the game was all Blue Mountain as Cumberland struggled from the field to start. The Toppers quickly built their lead up to as much as 18 point up 25-7 after the first eight minutes of the game. From that point Cumberland strung together a 7-0 run a three from Riggs Abner, a jumper from Conger, two free throws from Baqi Lecky. Blue Mountain picked up the next four points before another 7-0 run by the Phoenix cut the score to 29-21 with three minutes left in the first half. 

The Toppers went on a quick 8-1 spurt to push the lead back out to 15 points over a minute before Cumberland closed the half on a 7-0 run to trail by nine, 37-29.

Cumberland came out fast in the second half going on a 15-6 spurt to start the second half and tie the game at 42-42. Still tied at 51-51, the Toppers took the lead as Hunt knocked down back-to-back shots, but the Phoenix fought back again asLecky hit a jumper and Boyd drilled a three for the lead with 6:43 to play. 

Blue Mountain answered with a 5-0 run, but Cumberland took the life away from the Toppers with a 10-0 run to take all the momentum. The Phoenix never relinquished the lead again going on to win by nine, 73-64, running the win-streak to five. 

The Phoenix will have 10 days off before they welcome Tennessee Southern to the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena on December 17th at 7:30 p.m.
