Men's Volleyball Win in Dominating Fashion against Bethel in Indiana

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – Men's Volleyball Win in Dominating Fashion in Indiana

Bethel started set one in dominant fashion going on a 6-1 run against the Phoenix. After a service error, CU slowed Bethel down and scored four straight to bring the score 9-7 for Bethel. Cumberland went on a 5-0 run to secure the lead 12-10. After going back and forth with Bethel, Cumberland went on a 6-0 run to extend their lead 22-18. The Phoenix took set one 25-21. 

The Phoenix jumped to a hot start in set two with a quick 6-2 lead. CU's Joao Infante led the charge and advanced the Phoenix to a 11-6 lead with two monstrous kills. After a couple of kills from Bethel the Phoenix responded and went on 6-0 run to advance the lead to 18-13 after a massive kill by Chance Gallardo. The Phoenix seemed to enjoy the runs of three today so they went on three separate runs of 3-0 and finished out set two with a 25-17 victory.

Set three was back and forth until a service error by Bethel sparked a 4-0 run for the Phoenix. Francesco Corradini sparked another 3-0 run that extended the Phoenix lead 11-8. The Pilots of Bethel fought back and erased the deficit to 13-11 and stopped another Phoenix run from happening. The Pilots went on another 4-0 run and brought it back within one after the Phoenix made a run but Cumberland kept their lead. The rest of set three went back and forth until Jacob Whyte had a monstrous kill to seal the 3-0 sweep against Bethel. 

Joao Infante led the Phoenix in the 3-0 sweep with 11 kills and 4.0 blocks on the day and a service ace.  Jacob Whyte followed up Infante with nine kills, including a service ace and 10.5 points for the Phoenix. Alexander Huer finished the day with 12 digs, and Sam Mannebach finished with 28 assists.

The Phoenix will be back in action tomorrow, February 1st against Calumet in Mishawaka, Ind. at 9:00 AM.
