Men's Soccer Heads Home to Continue Conference Play against Freed-Hardeman

LEBANON, Tenn. - - Men's Soccer looks to stay hot as they are at home to face Freed-Hardeman to continue conference play.

The Phoenix (9-1-3) (1-1-1) are looking to reach ten wins in a season for the fourth time in five years. Currently, Cumberland is on a four match unbeaten streak as they just drew to No. 24 Bethel on the road.

During this unbeaten streak, goalkeeper Eric Zalaya has been excellent, only allowing three goals on a .850 save percentage, including a ten save shutout against the Wildcats this past weekend. In conference play, the Spaniard is second in the Mid-South in saves (16), third in save percentage (.762) and has one shutout. His play these past two weeks earned him back-to-back Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week Awards.

The attacking group of Philipp Schmidtke, Luis Cerejo, Miquel Gelabert, and Pau Ortega have combined for 35 goals, 31 assists, and 101 points, as well as 135 shots and 78 shots on goal. That group is in the top five in the conference for almost all scoring and shooting categories, which has earned them four Mid-South Conference Player of the Week Awards.

For the Lions (10-3-1) (1-2), they are looking to get back to .500 in conference play, as they were able to shut out Georgetown 2-0, but lost against Bethel 6-1 and Campbellsville 3-1 at home.

Freed-Hardeman is led by senior midfielder Thabo Mahlaha. Mahlaha is second in the Mid-South in assists (11), and fourth in points (21). Senior forward Avery Flener leads the Lions in goals with seven, which is fifth in the conference, and is seventh in the conference in shots and points.

In net, sophomore goalkeeper Eduardo Almansa has been a strong force for Freed-Hardeman. Almansa is leading the conference in saves (57), and shutouts (7), wins (8) and is second in save percentage (.826).

The Phoenix have dominated this matchup all time, where they are 13-2 against the Lions in their 15 matchups, with the Phoenix winning the previous seven matchups that didn't end in a forfeit. Cumberland is 9-0 when they host Freed-Hardeman.

Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM and you can tune in on the Cumberland Sports Network.
