Phoenix Volleyball Bounces Back with a Sweep over Freed-Hardeman

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland volleyball dominated from start to finish Thursday afternoon, sweeping Freed-Hardeman 25-18, 25-18, 25-18 inside the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena to secure their 22nd win of the season.

The Phoenix (22-10, 5-3 MSC) were balanced on both ends of the floor, hitting .250 as a team while holding the Lions (13-12, 1-6 MSC) to just .060. 

Cade led all players with 10 kills and 18 digs, hitting .348 on the night. Rogers followed with eight kills and six digs, while Hubbell added six kills and three blocks. Konkel contributed four kills and four blocks, and Carter dished out 17 assists to go along with three service aces. Snead and Ella Johnson anchored the back row with a combined nine digs and three aces.

Freed-Hardeman struggled with attack errors in the match finishing with 25. Audrey Orton had a team-high nine kills and 17 kills. Alyssa Austin added in 13 assists.

Cumberland opened the match with a strong first set, tallying 13 kills with only one error for a .400 hitting percentage. The Phoenix overcame a tight stretch midway through the frame with a 10-3 run fueled by Lila Cade and Jacey Hubbell to take the opener, 25-18.

Freed-Hardeman found rhythm early in set two, but the Phoenix quickly regrouped behind a nine-point surge capped by a service ace from Emma Carter. Carter steered the offense with 17 assists, three aces, and seven digs, while Cade and Carlee Rogers combined for five kills during the run that flipped the set in Cumberland's favor. The Lions committed 13 attack errors in the set as the Phoenix pulled away for another 25-18 win.

Cumberland kept its foot on the gas in the third, jumping out to a 7-2 lead with early kills from Rogers and Hubbell and never looked back. The Phoenix were sharp in transition, getting timely digs from Kaleigh Glass and Morgan Snead and closing the match on a back-to-back by Hubbell and Hazel Konkel to complete the sweep, 25-18.

As a team, the Phoenix totaled 34 kills, seven aces, and seven team blocks in the victory.

Cumberland will finish off their non-conference schedule on Saturday as they travel to Fisk at 3:00 p.m.
