Men's Soccer Opens MSC Tournament At Home Against Campbellsville

LEBANON, Tenn. - - Cumberland Men's Soccer looks to bounce back as they host Campbellsville in the quarterfinals of the Mid-South Conference Tournament, a team who just ended their unbeaten streak.

Looking back at the final regular season game for these two sides, Cumberland was able to get 17 shots off, four on target, but they were held scoreless for just the second time this season. In the rematch, they are going to have the Phoenix fans on their side as Cumberland has scored 43 goals at home this season, and has a record at home of 6-1-1.

If the Phoenix want to win this game and move on in the playoffs, they will need to get their offense running with Junior forward Philipp Schmidtke leading the way. Schmidtke had 2 shots and one shot on goal in the previous matchup, but the conference leader in goals (15), points (40), and shots (61) can turn it on at any point.

Senior goalkeeper Eric Zalaya has been dominant at home in the past month, not allowing a single goal since September 20th against the then No. 4 University of the Cumberlands.

Campbellsville was able to get the win thanks to a brace from junior forward Mihlali Blesi, who won MSC Offensive Player of the Week due to this game. Blesi now has nine goals and four assists on the season. They also had help from goalkeeper Malthe Schou, who had four saves.

This is the No. 4 vs No. 5 matchup in the MSC Championship, and the winner will go to play the No. 1 seed and No. 6-ranked University of the Cumberlands.

In the all-time series, the Phoenix have a record of 9-11-4 against the Tigers, and have a record of 4-5-3 when they are playing at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.

Kickoff is set for 12:00 PM and you can tune in to watch on the Cumberland Sports Network.
