Near Thirty Point Triple-Double from Conger Helps Push Phoenix Past St. Ambrose

LEBANON, Tenn. - - Cumberland men's basketball grinded out a win Friday night, defeating St. Ambrose (Iowa) 91-86 inside the Rittenmeyer Center. The Phoenix shot a scorching 64% from the field and 63.6% from three-point range to secure the high-scoring victory.

The Phoenix finished 32-of-50 from the field and 7-of-11 from deep, while also connecting on 20-of-32 free throws. CU dished out 15 assists, forced 18 turnovers, and tallied 10 steals in a fast-paced offensive showcase. Cumberland also scored 42 points in the paint and 31 points off the bench, holding the advantage in second-chance opportunities despite being outrebounded 30-28. 

Triston Conger was unstoppable, pouring in 32 points on 11-of-17 shooting, grabbing nine rebounds, and adding seven assists in a complete performance. Michael Nwoye added his second-straight double-figure point game with 10 points. Nick Brunetti and Zaylin Rowland each contributed nine points. Jaren Davis added in seven points on 2-for-3 from deep.

The Fighting Bees hit 50% of their field goals and 42.9% (15-of-35) from three-point range. St. Ambrose recorded 25 assists and 30 total rebounds but committed 18 turnovers that proved costly in the second half. Colin Wainscott led St. Ambrose with 24 points on 8-for-10 shooting from deep. Nolan Dietrich added 20 points 6-of-13 points. Narbona Guillermo had 14 points, nine assists, and eight boards. 

The opening half featured constant lead changes before Cumberland began to take control late. Conger and Davis combined for 23 of CU's 47 first-half points, while efficient three-point shooting gave the Phoenix a 47-44 advantage at the break.

Cumberland extended its lead behind Conger's aggressive attacking in the lane and timely bench scoring. The Fighting Bees took control for a portion of the game's late moments but a massive 14 point swing in the final four minutes put the Phoenix securely in the lead and it would end that way.

Cumberland returns to action Saturday afternoon against the host Calumet College of St. Joseph at 2:00 p.m.
