Women's Basketball Improve to 3-1 with Big Team Effort

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - - Cumberland women's basketball put together another strong defensive performance Saturday afternoon, earning a 63-45 win over Central Methodist to improve to 3-1 on the season and remain perfect on the weekend.

The Phoenix came out firing and never looked back, racing to a 10-0 start in the opening minutes. Cumberland led 20-16 after the first quarter and 36-28 at halftime before locking in defensively in the second half, holding the Eagles to just seven points in the third quarter to take full control.

Three players scored in double figures for the Phoenix, led by Sydney Schwallie and Ty Buckley with 12 points apiece. Schwallie knocked down both of her attempts from three, while Buckley added five rebounds and a pair of steals. Braley Bushman provided a big spark off the bench with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting and went 4-for-4 at the line.

Riley Long continued her strong play with 10 points and six rebounds, and Emaleigh Tarpley posted nine points and a team-high 10 boards. Faith Colston filled the stat sheet with six rebounds, six assists, and two steals, helping direct the offense and anchor the defensive effort.

Cumberland held Central Methodist to just 34% shooting and 22.7% from three while forcing 22 turnovers. The Phoenix finished with a 41–26 rebounding advantage and scored 18 points off turnovers.

Cumberland returns home next week for a trio of matchups at the Dallas-Floyd, beginning with a Tuesday afternoon game against Johnson University.
