Wildcats Down the Phoenix in Mid-South Conference Men's Soccer Championship

Box Score MCKENZIE, Tenn. - - The Cumberland men's soccer team took on the No. 2 seeded Bethel Wildcats in tonight's Mid-South Conference Championship, falling just short at 2-0.

From the jump, it was a physical matchup with both sides struggling to get much footing in the game. Cumberland had an early chance as Miquel Gelabert took a pass down the left wing and ripped a shot at the near post, though the Wildcats would make the pivotal save.

After that early attempt it was the home side who found themselves ahead, scoring from a great run down the left side of the defense. From that point on, it was a battle in the midfield with neither side taking a shot on goal for nearly twenty minutes, until the Wildcats clawed themselves a second and final goal.

That 2-0 goal led the game into the break and despite the Phoenix's efforts in the second half, the game finished with that same scoreline. Cumberland will now wait until Friday afternoon for the NAIA Post-Season Selection Show, in the hopes of getting an at-large bid.
