75 Phoenix Named NAIA Scholar-Athletes for Fall 2025

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland University continued its strong tradition of academic excellence this fall as 75 Phoenix student-athletes were recognized as 2025 NAIA Scholar-Athletes, the national office announced on Wednesday.

The NAIA Scholar-Athlete honor is one of the association's most prestigious academic awards, recognizing student-athletes across fall championship sports who have excelled in the classroom while competing at the highest level of collegiate athletics. Fall sports considered for the award include football, men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer, and women's volleyball.

To qualify, student-athletes must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5, appear on the eligibility certificate for their sport, and have completed at least one full year at their institution.

Cumberland's fall scholar-athletes represented programs across the department, led by football with 21 honorees, followed closely by women's volleyball with 19. Women's soccer added 16 scholar-athletes, while men's soccer contributed 15 to the university's total. Women's cross country featured three honorees, and men's cross country rounded out the list with one, bringing Cumberland's fall tally to 75 NAIA Scholar-Athletes.

Nationally, Dordt (Iowa) led all institutions with 132 honorees, followed by Reinhardt (Ga.) (86), Marian (Ind.) (85), Kansas Wesleyan (84), and College of Idaho (83). Among conferences, the Great Plains Athletic Conference (693) and the Heart of America Athletic Conference (690) paced all leagues, with the Crossroads League (538), Appalachian Athletic Conference (458), and Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (437) rounding out the top five.

Across the NAIA, women's soccer produced the highest total of scholar-athletes with 1,606, followed by men's soccer (1,345), women's volleyball (1,231), football (1,129), women's cross country (617), and men's cross country (558).
