Women's Soccer Fall in Second Round of the NAIA National Tournament

CLEVELAND, Ga. - - Cumberland women's soccer saw their postseason run come to an end Saturday afternoon, falling 4–2 to No. 7 Truett McConnell in the NAIA National Championship Second Round at the TMU Soccer Complex. The Phoenix close their season at 12-5-1.

Truett McConnell put themselves in the driving seat early, striking three times in the opening 21 minutes to build a 3–0 lead. The Phoenix settled in defensively after the slow start, holding the Bears scoreless for more than 60 minutes while growing into the match on the attacking side.

Cumberland came out fighting and made a  push in the second half. Olga Wallemo opened the scoring for CU in the 56th minute, slotting home a finish off a setup from Victoria Collins to cut the deficit to 3–1. Just six minutes later, Seika Stull buried another to bring the Phoenix within a goal at 3–2 and ignite momentum with nearly half an hour still to play.

The Phoenix continued pressing, generating seven second-half shots and earning three corner kicks as they hunted an equalizer. Cumberland's best spell saw sustained possession with chances being created, but couldn't find the final product.

Truett McConnell, however, found a late insurance goal in the 82nd minute, Isabella Hodson's second of the match, to restore a two-goal cushion and close out the contest.

Cumberland finished with 11 shots, five on goal, and goals from Wallemo and Stull. Collins provided the lone assist, while Celia Martin recorded four saves in goal. TMU held a narrow 13–11 edge in total shots.

Despite the loss, the Phoenix concluded a strong 2025 campaign that included an unbeaten conference run, a Mid-South Conference regular-season title, and advancement into the NAIA Second Round.
