Hatch Swats His Way to MSC Defensive Player of the Week

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland forward Jake Hatch has been named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week after anchoring the Phoenix in a 76-68 upset victory over No. 20 Dalton State.

Hatch had a huge game defensively helping CU get the win, finishing with a game-high four blocks, a steal, and eight rebounds. His presence at the rim changed the complexion of the matchup, routinely forcing Dalton State into altered shots, late-clock decisions, and limited second-chance opportunities. Led by Hatch's effort, the Phoenix held a nationally ranked offense to just 68 points, one of their lowest outputs of the year.

The sophomore logged 33 minutes in the win, adding eight points on 3-of-7 shooting, going a perfect 2-for-2 at the line.

Hatch earns the award for the first time this season and of his career. This is the fourth time a Phoenix has won a weekly conference honor this season. Riggs Abner won the defensive award once and Triston Conger has won the offensive award twice this year.

The Phoenix are on the road on Saturday as they travel to Gallatin, Tennessee to face off with Welch College.
