Blue Raiders Play Spoiler to Phoenix in Senior Day Loss

LEBANON, Tenn. - - The Cumberland Men's Basketball Team welcomed in the Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders for their final regular season matchup and Senior Day Festivities.

Demarius Boyd came out of the gates hot, hitting a three pointer in both of the Phoenix's first possessions, putting him just single digit points away from a college career total of two thousand points. Along with his effort, the Blue Raiders hit a three of their own and got to the foul line to bring the game back to a one shot ball game.

Cumberland kept up their pace, leading the game all the way until there was five minutes left on the clock. In that time each team struggled to score the ball, shooting a combined 28% from the field, with the only difference being from beyond the arc.

After trailing for three quarters of the first half it was back-to-back threes from the Lindsey Wilson big man which gave the Blue Raiders the momentum they needed to take the lead and hold it until the break. Leading by as many as seven points late in the half, Riggs Abner hit a pair of free throws in the final seconds of the period to make it 32-27 at the half.

Both teams traded three pointers coming out of the break but Lindsey WIlson kept their lead, despite rallying to bring it all the way down to a one point game at 40-39. In the blink of an eye though the game went from just one point between the two, to double-digits, 52-41.

During Cumberland's best stretch of their comeback attempt they managed to bring it back to five points as Demarius Boyd put five straight points in for the Phoenix and Cooper Abner sunk a free throw, 59-54.

Coming down to crunch time, the Blue Raiders continued to put shots in, in bunches and keep at least that five point margin that they held in the first half. By the time the buzzer sounded it was 84-74, brought down to 10 points after a massive putback dunk from Nick Brunetti.

Starting in place of Triston Conger, the freshman had what is most likely his best game of the year, scoring an efficient 19 points and four boards. Demarius Boyd though eclipsed the two thousand mark for college career, scoring a game and team-high 29 points, along with five boards. Keyshawn Robinson also chipped in a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Cumberland will now wait for their seeding and times to take part in the Mid-South Conference Tournament.
