Football Announces 2025 Signing Class

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland University football head coach Tim Mathis has announced the 2025 signing class, bringing in a talented group of players to strengthen the Phoenix roster for the upcoming seasons.

The 2025 class marks Mathis' eighth signing group and his seventh full class at the helm. Cumberland welcomes 45 new student-athletes, with a strong presence from the Southeast. The Phoenix are welcoming in 35 from Tennessee, seven from Georgia, and one from  Alabama, Kentucky, and Florida. The class includes a balanced mix of offensive and defensive standouts, adding depth and versatility to the program.

"We are excited about this year's signing class," Mathis said. "With so many key returners, we were able to focus on bringing in high-character players who fit our system and can make an impact. This group adds a lot of talent across multiple positions, and we're looking forward to getting them on campus and working with them. We still have a few more guys we will add to round out what is already a strong class."

The Phoenix added four quarterbacks, two running backs, seven wide receivers, and six offensive linemen to reinforce the offense. On the defensive side, Cumberland brought in eight defensive lineman, ten linebackers, and a group of six defensive backs to bolster the secondary. The Phoenix also have brought in two athletes that play both sides of the ball. 

The Phoenix posted a 7-3 record in 2024 going 3-3 in conference play. The seven-win season was the first time the team had seven wins since 2017. Cumberland also reached as high as No. 22 in the rankings while being ranked or receiving votes in four polls this season, their first time in the Top 25 since 2018.
