Cumberland Football Releases 2025 Schedule

LEBANON, Tenn.--The Cumberland University football program has officially announced its 2025 schedule, featuring a 10-game slate that includes five home contests at Nokes-Lasater Field. 

The Phoenix will open the season on Saturday, September 6, hosting Reinhardt University under the lights at 6:00 p.m. The Eagles finished as co-champions of the Appalachian American Conference last season with a 7-4 overall record. Cumberland remains at home the following week, welcoming Ave Maria University on September 13 at 6:00 p.m. as well. The Gyrenes went 3-7 last season in the Sun Conference. 

The Phoenix will travel to the University of Pikeville on September 20 for a 5:00 p.m. central time kickoff, Pikeville secures a spot in the NAIA Football National Championships after winning the AAC's automatic bid, defeating Reinhardt in the regular season for the tiebreaker. The Bears were 6-6 with a 5-1 conference record and won their first round game against Baker.  The next week the Phoenix will head south to Florida Memorial University in Miami Gardens, Florida, on September 27 at 12:00 p.m. for the return game. Cumberland outdueled the Lions at Nokes-Lasater this season 47-35.

Following a bye week, Cumberland begins Mid-South Conference play for the remainder of the schedule. The Phoenix will visit Bethel University on October 11 and Georgetown College on October 18. Georgetown won the Mid-South Conference Championship last season and earned a first round bye in the playoff bracket. The Tigers made it to the quarterfinals before they were ousted by No. 1 Keiser.  

Cumberland returns home for Homecoming against Campbellsville University on October 25 at 1:30 p.m. Campbellsville beat the Phoenix this past season on their way to a 9-2 record. The Tigers were ranked No. 21 in the final Top 25 Poll of the season. 

The final month of the regular season includes two home contests and one road game. Cumberland will host the University of the Cumberlands on November 1 before traveling to Lindsey Wilson College on November 8. The Phoenix will conclude the regular season at home against Faulkner University on November 15 at 1:30 p.m. Senior Day festivities will take place prior to the game on November 15. 

The Phoenix posted a 7-3 record in 2024 going 3-3 in conference play. The seven-win season was the first time the team had seven wins since 2017. Cumberland also reached as high as No. 22 in the rankings, while being ranked or receiving votes in four polls this season, their first time in the Top 25 since 2018. 

Cumberland had six players earn First Team All-Conference honors last season and four more earn Second Team accoladed. First Team All-Conference honorees included Quarterback Luke Holloway, Running Back Jeremiah Bryant, Center Brody Hall, Left Tackle Will Sanchez, Safety Derek Taylor, and Defensive End Dez Wallace. Second Team honorees were Wide Receiver Jarrius Rogers, Running Back Jacob Cornejo, Defensive Back Kion Threalkill, and Defensive Lineman Joey Samples
