PULASKI, Tenn.--Cumberland Women's Tennis bounced back after a tough loss yesterday to deliver a commanding performance, defeating Tennessee Southern 6-1 on the road.

Cumberland set the tone early in doubles, as the Phoenix secured two out of three matches to take the point. At No. 2 doubles, Juanita Mendez and Emila Nowak cruised to a 6-1 victory over Victoria Sanches and Ali Hamilton of Tennessee Southern. The No. 3 duo of Kaede Hatano and Lara Zugasti followed suit, overcoming Natalia Vergara Campus and Sienna Roburto 6-4. Tennessee Southern managed to snag the No. 1 doubles match, with Otone Odajima and Yen-Ju Chang shutting out Madeleine Darud and Valentina Mendez 6-0.

In singles, Cumberland dominated, winning five of the six matches. Elina Sungatullina faced a tough battle at No. 1 singles against Otone Odajima, falling 1-6, 3-6, giving Tennessee Southern their lone singles point. However, Kaede Hatano bounced back from her doubles loss to triumph at No. 2 singles, outlasting Sienna Roburto 4-6, 6-1, 14-12 in a super-tiebreaker. Asya Tilsim Timur added a two set win at No. 3 singles, defeating Yen-Ju Chang 6-0, 7-6 (7-3).

The lower half of the singles lineup sealed the deal for Cumberland. Madeleine Darud made quick work of Ali Hamilton at No. 4 singles, winning 6-1, 6-1 in just 49 minutes. Lara Zugasti kept the momentum going at No. 5, topping Natalia Vergara Campus 6-3, 6-1 in 55 minutes. Lera Grianna capped off the day at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Lucia Zambrana.

With this victory, the Phoenix finish the week 3-1 playing four matches in four days. The Phoenix have now won five of their last six.

Their next match is at home against 23rd-ranked Bethel at 10:00 a.m.
