BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — The No. 12-ranked Cumberland Men's Tennis took down the University of the Cumberlands, 4-2, in a statement win as they advanced to the Mid-South Conference Championship match.

The Phoenix came out strong in doubles, grabbing the point with commanding wins on courts one and three. Julian Parada and Vitor Ferreira rolled to a 6-1 win at No. 1, while the duo of Daniel Wessels and Paul-Daniel Meyer closed out a 6-3 decision at No. 3 to clinch the early 1-0 lead. The match at No. 2 doubles was left unfinished with Gabriel Godoy and Elisey Kalashnikov trailing 5-3.

In singles play, the Patriots grabbed wins on courts two and three to briefly take a 2-1 lead, though Cumberland quickly responded.

Gabriel Godoy was dominant on court five, defeating Darius Kuster 6-1, 6-4 to even the match. Then Julian Parada delivered a clutch performance at No. 6, winning tight sets 7-5, 7-5 to swing the momentum back to the Phoenix.

With the match hanging in the balance, Daniel Wessels stepped up on court one. Facing the Patriot's best singles player, Juanchi Alcon, Wessels won 6-2 in his first set and sealed it with a win in a second-set tiebreak, 7-6 (8-6) to clinch the 4-2 victory and send Cumberland into the conference title match. Paul-Daniel Meyer split sets on court four and was tied 1-1 before his match was left unfinished due to the clinch.

The Phoenix head back to the Championship match for the second year in a row and will play regular season champs, Lindsey Wilson, at 3 PM.
