KINGSPORT, Tenn.--Cumberland rallies late to score eight unanswered runs to keep the season alive with an 8-3 win over Indiana Tech. The Phoenix advance in the Kingsport bracket and will play their third elimination game against Tennessee Wesleyan later today. 

Quinlan Wiley gave the Phoenix a gutsy performance to get the win. He threw 6.2 innings scattering nine hits giving up three runs and striking out five. Kyle Nyblod picked up his sixth save of the season, throwing 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball.  

Preston Welchel came up big for the Phoenix again driving in five runs and a big three-run blast in the ninth inning. Drew Dalton-Akiwumi went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs. Hunter Moser scored two runs and Dylan LaRue had a clutch RBI-single late in the game. 

The Warriors posted 13 hits and took an early lead, but could not hold onto it. Indiana Tech left 13 runners on the bases and committed two errors that helped CU score a pair of runs. 

Indiana Tech struck early in the first as the Warriors put a runner on clean-up hitter Jordan Malott belted a two-run home run to give them an early lead. 

In the third, Ben Morrison and Brycen Hannah singled to lead off the inning. Wiley induced a doubleplay to move Morrison to third. However, Jack Ferguson had a big two out knock to extend the Warriors lead to 3-0 through three innings. 

The Phoenix finally got to Indiana Tech starter Coley Stevens in the fifth inning. Trenton Duchscherer singled to get the rally starter and Javier Beal followed with one of his own to put runners on the corners. Drew Dalton-Akiwumi lined a single down the left field line to score courtesy runner Ty Martin. Hunter Moser singled home Beal and moved up to second on an error in the outfield. Preston Welchel came up big yet again with a two-RBI single to take the lead 4-3.

The Warriors had a chance in the sixth as Luke Huerta singled to lead off the inning. He moved up on a sac bunt and ended up at third after a passed ball. Wiley stranded him at third with a big punchout to keep a one run lead. 

Indiana Tech again moved a runner to third in the seventh inning to chase Wiley from the game. Kyle Nyblod entered and got a big out to once again keep the Phoenix up. 

Cumberland added a huge insurance run in the eighth inning. Wilser Then drew a one out walk. Pinch-runner Chris Meilan made something happen moving up to second on a errant pick off throw. He advanced to third on a groundout and Dylan LaRue delivered a clutch knock to score Meilan and extend the lead to 5-3. 

The Warriors got something going again in the bottom half of the eighth inning with two singles and a walk to load the bases. Nyblod got out of the jam with a two out fly out to center to keep a two run lead. 

Cumberland busted the game open in the top of the ninth with two outs. Dalton-Akiwumi singled to center and Moser was hit by a pitch to set up a three-run bomb from Welchel to put the game out of hand.

The Warriors loaded the bases again in the ninth, but could not push anything across for the 8-3 final score. 

Cumberland will take on 1-seed Tennessee Wesleyan in about an hour in their third elimination game of the tournament.
