Cumberland Football Positional Preview - Special Teams

LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland's special team unit is filled with returners and veterans set to be a big part of the team this season.

Kicker Jack Kantner returns for his junior season with the Phoenix. Kantner earned Mid-South Conference Special Teams Player of the Week honors two times last season handling the place kicking and kick-off duties in 2024. He converted four field goals including a long of 27 yards and averaging nearly 60 yards per kickoff. Kantner was also 40-for-44 on PATs.

At punter, Nolan Gottlied returns after leading the Phoenix with 1,204 yards on 32 punts, averaging 37.6 yards per attempt. Gottlied posted four punts that went 50+ yards and downed 14 inside the 20-yard line last season.

Caleb Folsom returns as the long snapper. Folsom had snapping duties last season as a freshman and will be on the ball punting and field goal situations. Transfer quarterback Jake Parker will be the holder this season with Zach Holtzclaw as the backup holder.

The return game will feature several weapons, highlighted by Jarrius Rogers, who averaged 8.1 yards per punt return and 19.1 yards on kickoffs, including a long return of 68 yards. Senior Shaikyi Hannah and sophomore Keenan Hill round out the kickoff return unit.
