Volleyball Sweep Georgetown to go 3-0 in Conference Play!

Box Score Lebanon, Tenn. - - Women's Volleyball swept Georgetown in three straight sets 25-11, 25-15, 25-15.

Cumberland were on fire today as they hit a total of 39 kills. Carlee Rogers led in kills with nine, she also recorded 12 assists and five digs in a successful night. Hailey Jones was accurate, with a total of seven kills and a .700 hitting percentage. Sydney Andrews and Lila Cade hit eight kills each. Emma Carter chipped in with 15 assists, while Kaleigh Glass swept up in defense with 16 digs of her own. Cumberland finished with a .315 hitting percentage and held their opponents to a -.051

The first set saw the Phoenix come out strong going on an impressive six point run to force a Tigers timeout 8-2. Another five point run from Cumberland, including kills from Hailey Jones, Sydney Andrews put the Phoenix up 19-6. Georgetown clawed back a few points but Cumberland dominated and comfortably took the first set 25-11.

The second set started much like the first, with the Phoenix getting points on the board early. Back to back service aces from Delaney Jones made it 8-2. The Tigers went on a four point run but the Phoenix remained in the lead at 9-6. Although this was a tighter set, the momentum that CU built in the opening sets proved too much for Georgetown, as a Carlee Rogers kill ended the set 25-15

The final set started the most even of the three with the Tigers taking a turn to get points on the board early, however, CU were quick to pick up some points of their own and swing the momentum back in their favor. Some Cumberland errors allowed Georgetown to pick up points and make the game 13-9. The Tigers took a timeout at 17-11. A number of Georgetown errors allowed Cumberland to capitalize and cruised to a 25-15 victory to sweep the game in three sets.

The Phoenix are back in action on October 4th at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena as they face #14 University of the Cumberlands. First Serve is set for 3:30 PM.
