Women’s Soccer Looking for Second Conference Win on the Road to Lindsey Wilson

LEBANON, Tenn. - - The No. 14 Cumberland Women's Soccer will continue conference play against (RV) Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Kentucky.

The Phoenix will have a chance to bounce back after losing to No. 19 Georgia Gwinnett on the road, moving their record to 8-2 on the season. The Phoenix opened conference play in dramatic fashion as they upset No. 2 University of the Cumberlands, 2-1.

Cumberland's offense has been strong this season, being one of 11 teams in the NAIA to score 100 or more points this season. The Phoenix attack leads the conference in goals, points, and shots per game, while being second in assists. Cumberland is led by senior midfielder and captain, Seika Stull. The Japanese midfielder is leading the conference in key categories like points and assists.

Her fellow captain and freshman midfielder, Olga Wallemo, has been impressive in her first campaign with the Phoenix. The Swede currently leads the conference in goals with five. On the front end, a trio of Phoenix attackers have had four goals this season: graduate Kadisha Martina, freshman Victoria Collins, and freshman Adelyn Drane. Drane has also added four assists, which puts her in a tie for second in the conference in points with 12.

In net, senior goalkeeper Celia Martin has been an impressive force and one of the best in the conference. The Spaniard is leading the conference in goals allowed with just seven on the season, good for less than a goal a game this season. Martin earned her second Mid-South Defensive Player of the Week award for her work in between the sticks in the match against the Patriots.

Looking at the Blue Raiders, they are coming off of a 1-0 win over (RV) Campbellsville on the road, and are looking to stay undefeated in conference play with a current record sat at 3-4-1. Currently, Lindsey Wilson is third in the Mid-South in assists, goals allowed, and tied for second in shutouts.

Despite four losses this season, the Blue Raiders have only dropped one game by more than two goals, their season opener over Oakland City. They are led in scoring by sophomore winger Lara Rocha. Rocha has three goals and one assist for seven points and was able to get a Mid-South Offensive Player of the Week award for her efforts. In goal, freshman goalkeeper Demi Serman has been solid for Lindsey Wilson, blocking 31 shots for a .705 save percentage. Serman won the MSC Defensive Player of the Week this week for her performance against Campbellsville.

In the all time series, the Blue Raiders have dominated the Phoenix, as Cumberland has a 5-20-1 record. Their last match was a 1-1 draw, but the last time the Phoenix traveled to Columbia, they came out with the 2-0 win. The Phoenix are 4-12 when they travel to face the Blue Raiders.

Kickoff is set for 5:00 PM and you can tune in to watch on the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network.
