Phoenix Host No. 24 Lindsey Wilson in Saturday Showdown

LEBANON, Tenn.--The Cumberland women's basketball team will host the 24th-ranked Lindsey Wilson Blue Raiders on Saturday. The Phoenix will tip off at 1:00 p.m. CT in the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena and will look to bounce back after a hard-fought 67-55 loss to the No. 3-ranked Campbellsville Tigers.

Cumberland enters the matchup with a 14-6 overall record and a 0-4 Mid-South Conference mark. Saturday's game will be the second meeting between the two teams this season. Lindsey Wilson got the best of the Phoenix in the first matchup, earning a 97-74 victory.

The Phoenix will be led by junior forward Emaliegh Tarpley, who is coming off a stellar performance in Cumberland's last game, scoring 19 points and grabbing eight rebounds while shooting 5-of-9 from the field and 9-of-10 from the free-throw line. Senior guard Ty Buckley is also coming off a strong outing, scoring 15 points and shooting 3-of-6 from beyond the arc. Cumberland also features junior guard Faith Colston as she added nine points while shooting 3-of-6 from the field against Campbellsville.

As a team, the Phoenix are shooting 41.7 percent from the field, 32.2 percent from three-point range, and 72.2 percent from the free-throw line.

Lindsey Wilson is coming off a upset victory Thursday night against the nation's fourth-ranked Campbellsville University. The Blue Raiders defeated the Tigers 84-69 in convincing fashion.

The Blue Raiders will be led by sophomore forward Meadow Tisdale, who averages 15.4 points per game and anchors the paint for Lindsey Wilson. Tisdale leads the team in field-goal percentage at 56.8 percent and rebounds, averaging 7.4 per game. Lindsey Wilson will also feature senior guard Amelia Hodges, who is shooting 40.4 percent from the field and a team-high 37 percent from three-point range while averaging 10.2 points per game. Sophomore guard Saniyah Shelton adds 9.6 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. Hodges and Shelton will run the Blue Raiders' backcourt, while Tisdale controls the post.

Key factors in Saturday's matchup will be whether the Phoenix can slow down Lindsey Wilson's aggressive offense, which ranks 24th nationally in scoring, and whether Cumberland can force the Blue Raiders into turnovers.

The two programs have met 38 times since 2000, with Lindsey Wilson holding a 24-14 advantage. The Blue Raiders have won five straight against Cumberland, but the Phoenix will look to snap that streak with the home-court advantage.

Tipoff is set for 1:00 p.m. CT on Saturday in Lebanon, Tenn., at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena. Fans can listen live on 98.9 WANT or watch the game on the Urban Edge Network.
