LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland secured a dramatic 71–69 victory over Lindsey Wilson on a last-second shot. The two teams exchanged blows throughout the contest, and no lead was ever safe, as the game featured 18 combined lead changes.
Cumberland (9–11, 0–5 MSC) shot 51.9 percent from the field (27-of-59) and 40 percent from three-point range (6-of-15), while converting 61.1 percent from the free-throw line (11-of-18). The Phoenix defense played with high energy, forcing 17 turnovers.
Zaylin Rowland led the Phoenix with 16 points, shooting 8-of-12 from the floor. Jordan Jenkins added 13 points on 4-of-6 shooting, went 3-of-4 from the free-throw line, and knocked down two clutch three-pointers, including the game-winning basket. Tristan Conger contributed 11 points, shooting 4-of-10 from the field and 3-of-5 from the charity stripe. Nick Brunetti also finished in double figures with 10 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
Lindsey Wilson (15–5, 4–1 MSC) shot 45.3 percent (24-of-53) from the floor, 25 percent (6-of-24) from beyond the arc, and 50 percent (15-of-20) from the free-throw line in the back-and-forth battle. Kenyatta Carbon led the Blue Raiders with 16 points, shooting 5-of-12 from the field and 5-of-10 at the line. Olson Nicholson added 12 points, shooting 3-of-5 from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free-throw line.
The first half was tightly contested, with Lindsey Wilson and Cumberland trading baskets and neither team able to gain significant separation. The Blue Raiders relied on balanced scoring and interior play, while Cumberland countered with timely shooting and defensive pressure. Late in the half, Riggs Abner connected on two three-pointers to give the Phoenix the lead heading into the break.
The second half mirrored the intensity of the first, featuring 14 lead changes alone. Neither team could pull away, with Cumberland holding its largest lead at 65–59 late in the game. Lindsey Wilson responded with key offensive possessions, and Carbon hit two free throws to tie the game at 69–69 with under 10 seconds remaining.
After advancing the ball and calling a timeout, Cumberland put the final shot in Jordan Jenkins' hands. Jenkins received the inbound pass from Rowland, missed his initial attempt, but tipped in the rebound with less than a second remaining to seal the win for the Phoenix.
The Phoenix will be back at home on Monday to host No. 2 Freed-Hardeman. Tip-off is slated for 7:30 p.m.
