Cumberland Women's Soccer Hosts Bethel in MSC Tournament Quarterfinals

LEBANON, Tenn. -- Cumberland women's soccer opens postseason play Wednesday as the Phoenix host Bethel in the Mid-South Conference Tournament quarterfinals at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.

The Phoenix enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed with a 10-6-1 overall record, and 3-3 in conference play, while Bethel earned the No. 5 seed with a 2-8-1 overall record and 2-4 mark in conference play. Cumberland will look to capitalize on its home-field advantage to secure a spot in the semifinals and keep its postseason run alive.

The two teams previously met on Sept. 12 in Lebanon, where Cumberland opened its Mid-South Conference schedule with a dominant 9-0 victory over the Wildcats. The Phoenix will look to replicate that performance as the rivals meet again with a spot in the semifinals on the line.

Cumberland has demonstrated its offensive firepower throughout the season, scoring nine goals against both Bethel and Freed-Hardeman while adding a five-goal performance against Brescia. Senior forward Victoria Collins leads the Phoenix attack with 16 goals and three assists for 35 points, while Uxia Varela has contributed eight goals and three assists. Ruth Rodriguez has added seven goals and two assists, including a hat trick in Cumberland's previous meeting with Bethel.

Defensively, senior goalkeeper Sydney Eads has been a key presence for the Phoenix, recording 59 saves and eight shutouts in 16 appearances entering the postseason. Her experience and shot-stopping ability will be important as Cumberland looks to contain the Wildcats and advance to the conference semifinals.

Bethel enters the quarterfinals looking to carry momentum into the postseason after closing its conference schedule with a 4-2 victory over Georgetown. The win secured the Wildcats the No. 5 seed and an opportunity to challenge Cumberland on the road.

Rose Boichat and Manon Petit lead the Wildcats offensively, with three goals apiece. In goal, Lola Guerin has started eight of Bethel's 11 games this season and will look to help the Wildcats slow down Cumberland's attack.

Historically, the Phoenix hold an 11-7-2 advantage in the all-time series. After earning a convincing victory in the teams' first meeting this season, Cumberland will look to maintain that edge and continue its pursuit of a Mid-South Conference Tournament championship.

With a place in the semifinals at stake, the Phoenix will aim to deliver a complete performance on both ends of the field. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
