LEBANON, Tenn.--Cumberland baseball fell to Milligan, 17-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Woody Hunt Stadium.
Milligan took control early and never let up, scoring three runs in the first inning on a three-run home run before adding two more in the second. The Buffaloes broke the game open in the third, erupting for six runs including another three-run blast to stretch the lead to 11-0.
The offensive continued throughout the middle innings as Milligan added three runs in both the fifth and sixth frames, finishing with 17 runs on 16 hits. Brody Melton led the charge with two home runs and five RBIs, while Braxton Baird went a perfect 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs of his own.
Cumberland was limited offensively totaling four hits in the contest. The Phoenix broke through in the fifth inning when
Charlie Rocca singled to set the table for
JT Kelenic, who launched a two-run home run to left field for Cumberland's only runs of the day.
Aiden McDonald also recorded a double, while
Caleb Royer added a base hit.
On the mound,
Kyle Niebow was charged with the loss after allowing three runs in the opening inning. Cumberland utilized six pitchers in the game.
Milligan's Cainan Meyers earned the win, tossing six innings while allowing two runs and striking out six. Jake Brune tossed the final inning to seal the win.
Cumberland will look to regroup as they host Georgia Gwinnett for a three-game series this weekend.
