Phoenix Fall in Four to Bearcats

OWNESBORO, Ky. - - Volleyball fell in four sets on the road to Brescia on Saturday afternoon.

Joao Infante had another 20 kill game, while Zendai Richards and Francesco Corradini chipped in with 15 and eight respectively. Corradini also had five blocks against the Bearcats. Alexander Heuer led the Phoenix in digs with 15, while Austin Kuehler picked up 27 assists.

Cumberland opened the match in a competitive first set but fell just short as the Bearcats took it 25-23. The Phoenix recorded 14 kills but were limited by eight attack errors, while Brescia hit .273 to maintain a narrow edge throughout the set. Despite strong rallies late, Cumberland could not overcome the Bearcats' efficient offense.

The Phoenix continued to battle in the second set, once again falling by a close 25-23 margin. Cumberland improved offensively with 16 kills and a .317 hitting percentage, but Brescia's balanced attack produced 19 kills to hold off the late push. The two-point result gave the Bearcats a 2-0 lead and put real pressure on the Phoenix to remain in the game.

Cumberland responded in the third set, earning a 25-23 victory to extend the match. The Phoenix recorded 13 kills while tightening their play defensively to slow Brescia's momentum. The win kept Cumberland within striking distance and shifted the energy heading into the fourth set.

Brescia regained control in the fourth set, closing the match with a 25-17 win. The Bearcats delivered their most efficient offensive performance of the match, hitting .385 in the set while limiting errors. Cumberland finished the match with 55 kills overall but could not overcome Brescia's late surge, falling 3-1.

Cumberland will look to bounce back on Tuesday night as they face No.12 Reinhardt University at the Dallas Floyd Phoenix Arena at 5PM CT.
