Cumberland Clinches Season Series Over Bulldogs With DH Sweep

LEBANON, Tenn - -  Strong pitching and timely hitting lift the Phoenix past the Bulldogs in both games of the doubleheader.

In game one, Avery Rauscher delivered a dominant performance in the circle, throwing a complete game while striking out 13 Bulldog batters.
The Phoenix opened the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Karley Daughrity started the rally with a double to right field and advanced to third on a double down the right-field line by Abby Chappell. Daughrity later crossed the plate on an infield hit by Leslie Bartoli to give Cumberland the early 1-0 lead.

Union responded in the top of the third inning. Taylor Kelly tripled to set up the scoring opportunity and was brought home by Tori Turner, tying the game at 1-1.

Cumberland regained momentum in the sixth inning. Hailey Donato led off with a walk, and Karsyn France reached on a bunt single that moved Donato into scoring position while also allowing France to advance to third. Kennedy Scott then drew a walk to load the bases for the Phoenix. Abby Chappell delivered the decisive hit with a single to left field, driving in two runs and giving Cumberland a 3-1 advantage.
Behind Rauscher's strong outing in the circle, the Phoenix held off the Bulldogs to secure the 3-1 victory in game one of the doubleheader.
In game two, the Bulldogs jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. However, Madison Croxford quickly settled in for the Phoenix, delivering an outstanding relief performance. Croxford pitched seven innings without allowing another run, keeping Cumberland within striking distance.

The Phoenix responded in the third inning. Abby Chappell worked a walk and later stole second base. Natalie Rector followed with a single and also swiped second to move both runners into scoring position. Hailey Donato then lifted a sacrifice fly to bring Chappell home, putting Cumberland on the board.

Cumberland took control in the fifth inning. Karley Daughrity led off the inning with a double, followed by a single through the left side by Chappell, who later stole second. Elly Castle drew a walk to load the bases for the Phoenix. Rector delivered with a sacrifice fly to center field, tying the game at 3-3. Donato then came through in a clutch moment, doubling to left field to score Chappell and Castle and give Cumberland a 5-3 lead.

The Phoenix added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning. DeShae Oakley reached base after being hit by a pitch and later stole second. Daughrity followed with a hit that brought Oakley home, extending the lead.

Union threatened in the top of the seventh, putting the first two runners on base. However, Croxford worked out of the jam to secure the victory and complete Cumberland's comeback win.
