BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - - The Cumberland men's tennis team fought hard but were unable to unsettle the top-seed Blue Raiders, falling 4-0.
In doubles play,
Mateus Mori and
Carlos Morillas fell 6-0 at No. 1 doubles, while
Mohamed Bouhlel and
Matheus Guarnieri dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 3 doubles as Lindsey Wilson claimed the doubles point. The No. 2 doubles match featuring
Arthur Fernandes and
Arne Sohmer was left unfinished with the Phoenix trailing 4-3.
Singles competition saw
Matheus Guarnieri fall at No. 1 singles, while
Carlos Morillas was defeated 6-1, 6-4 at No. 3.
Mateus Mori also dropped his match at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 6-0, as Lindsey Wilson sealed the victory. Several other matches remained unfinished, including strong efforts from
Mohamed Bouhlel,
Arne Sohmer and
Arthur Fernandes.
Bouhlel won his first set 6-3, while also being ahead in the second set 3-2. Fernandes lost his first set but was leading in the second set. Sohmer was behind 6-4, 4-1.
Cumberland will now await the selection committee's decision to see if they are given an at-large bid to the NAIA National Tournament.
