COLUMBIA, Ky. - - Cumberland closed its 2026 season on Friday morning with a tough 11-0 loss to Freed-Hardeman in five innings at Sparks Park.

Freed-Hardeman wasted no time taking control, exploding for six runs in the bottom of the first inning. A three-run home run from Alivia Eggleston highlighted the early surge, while defensive miscues from the Phoenix extended the inning and allowed additional unearned runs to cross the plate. By the end of the frame, Cumberland found itself in a 6-0 hole it never recovered from.

The Lions added to their lead in the third inning, plating five more runs on a string of timely hits. Offensively, Cumberland struggled to find momentum against Katy Gartrell, who tossed a complete-game two-hitter.

The Phoenix managed just two hits, one from Elly Castle and one from Addison O'Dell, and struck out seven times.

In the circle, Avery Rauscher was tagged with the loss after surrendering three early runs, while Madison Croxford and Madison Lancaster combined to finish the game. Despite Lancaster providing a steady final stretch, the early deficit proved too much to overcome.
