MOBILE, Ala. - - The Cumberland University women's tennis season came to an end this afternoon as the Phoenix fell 4-0 to Lindsey Wilson University in the NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship.

Cumberland battled hard against one of the top teams in the country, but the Blue Raiders claimed the doubles point and secured three straight singles victories to advance to the next round of the tournament.

In doubles play, Asya Tilsim Timur and Madeleine Darud faced the nation's third-ranked duo at No. 1 doubles, falling 6-0, while Elina Sungatullina and Maria Arbelaez took on the No. 38 pair in the country at No. 3 doubles and fell 6-1. Valentina and Juanita Mendez had their match come to a halt at 2-4 with the point clinched.

The Blue Raiders sealed the match in singles with wins at No. 4, No. 1, and No. 5. Elina Sungatullina dropped a 6-1, 6-0 decision at No. 4 singles, Valentina Mendez fell 6-0, 6-0 at the top spot, and Juanita Mendez was defeated 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5.

Several other matches were left unfinished as the contest was clinched. At No. 2 singles, Asya Tilsim Timur had rallied after losing the first set and was tied in a competitive second set. Maria Arbelaez was battling at No. 3 singles, and Ame Van Eijk was also in the middle of a hard-fought match at No. 6.

The Phoenix close the 2026 season with an 11-10 overall record and a trip to the NAIA National Championship Second Round, marking their deepest run in the tournament since 2008.
