No. 20 Cumberland Returns Home for Conference Opener Against Bethel

LEBANON, Tenn. - - The No. 20 Cumberland women's soccer team returns to Lindsey Donnell Stadium for their conference play opener against Bethel. 

The Phoenix come into their opener with a 4-2 record, having only lost to ranked opponents No. 3 Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and No. 23 University of Northwestern Ohio. 

The Phoenix has recorded three shutouts so far this year, one of which was an impressive win over (RV) Eastern Oregon University. The Phoenix's last game was against Brescia, their largest win of the season, a 5-0 hammering. 

Offensively, the Phoenix is being led by Victoria Collins who enters this game with 15 points from 7 goals and 1 assist including a hat-trick in her last game against Brescia. In addition to Collins in the Phoenix attack is Uxia Varela, a goal scorer in the last match and now has 6 points from two pairs of goals and assists so far this season. 

Defensively, the Phoenix has relied on keeper Sydney Eads. Eads has started all six games for the Phoenix this year and has allowed 10 goals with 25 saves for a 0.714 save percentage. 

The Wildcats enter this contest with a 0-3-1 record. They have scored six goals and allowed twelve goals for a 1.50 goals scored average per game. The Wildcats will be looking to break their losing streak after falling to LSU Alexandria 3-4 and (RV) Eastern Oregon 0-1 in two close contests. 

Offensively, the Wildcats are led by Rose Boichat who has six points from three goals and Tinotenda Taurai who has four points from two goals. 

Defensively, the Wildcats have used two keepers evenly: Maria Carrico and Lola Guerin. Both keepers have played two games each. Carrico has allowed seven goals with seven saves recording a 0.500 save percentage, while Guerin has allowed five goals with fourteen saves recording a 0.737 save percentage. 

Historically, the Phoenix has had success in this series. They currently have a three-game winning streak over the Wildcats and hope to make that four games when they face the Wildcats tomorrow afternoon.
