HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - - Cumberland University's men's cross country team competed Friday morning at the Southern Showcase, finishing 14th out of 28 teams in the Men's 8k Open with 358 points.

Junior Wilson Navarrete led the Phoenix, placing 36th overall with a time of 27:18.4. Freshman Romulo Basso Filho followed in 60th at 27:59.1, while freshman Collins Kibiwott finished 79th in 28:27.5.

Freshman Carter Crook crossed the finish line in 91st with a time of 28:38.6, and freshman Dylan Hunter rounded out Cumberland's scoring five in 115th at 29:03.9.

The Phoenix posted a combined time of 2:21:28 among their top five runners, averaging 28:18, with a 1:46 spread between their first and fifth finishers. Cumberland also had freshman Lukas Price finish 125th in 29:18.4, while sophomore Garrett Tunks placed 161st with a time of 30:14.0.

The Phoenix will return to action on October 9 when they compete in the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
