HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - - Cumberland University's women's cross country team turned in an eighth-place finish Friday morning at the Southern Showcase, scoring 254 points in the Women's 5k Open.

The Phoenix placed eighth out of 26 teams, recording a top-five combined time of 1:44:45 with an average time of 20:57 and a 2:42 spread.

Freshman Elizabeth Agyei led Cumberland individually, placing 13th overall with a time of 19:26.5. Junior Wendy Komane followed in 25th at 19:57.6, giving the Phoenix two runners inside the top 25.

Junior Alexa Rumpf finished 68th in 21:29.3, while junior Channon Cundiff placed 76th with a time of 21:42.5. Senior Jenna Towles rounded out Cumberland's scoring five in 91st place at 22:08.3.

Freshman Alaina Chapman finished just behind Towles in 95th at 22:13.3, followed by sophomore Laykin Ellis in 106th at 22:31.3. Freshman Karis Singleterry completed the Phoenix lineup in 138th with a time of 24:06.9.

Cumberland will return to action on October 9 at the Royals Challenge in Charlotte, N.C.
