LEBANON, Tenn. - - The No. 19 Phoenix head to Kentucky on Thursday to face conference foe Georgetown College.

Cumberland (8-2-1, 2-0 MSC) enters the matchup on a five-match unbeaten streak and sits atop the Mid-South Conference standings after defeating Bethel University (Tenn.) and Freed-Hardeman University (Tenn.) by a combined score of 18-0.

Cumberland is coming off a 2-0 victory over Williams Baptist Lady Eagles on Tuesday. The Phoenix out shot the Lady Eagles 41-3 and had 17 shots on goals. Victoria Collins opened the scoring for the Phoenix while Sabrina Barbosa finished the scoring. 

The Phoenix currently lead the conference in points and shots on goal while ranking second in shots. Cumberland has scored 18 goals in conference play this season, leading the conference by a wide margin over Lindsey Wilson, which has nine goals.

The Phoenix offense will be led by sophomore forward Collins, who leads the conference in goals (11), points (27), points per game (2.4), shots (56), and shots on goal (31). Collins has gotten off to a strong start in conference play and will look to continue her scoring against Georgetown on Thursday.

Cumberland will also look to Uxia Varela, who was named the Mid-South Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. Varela has been a consistent scoring option for the Phoenix and scored three goals in Cumberland's most recent conference matchup against Freed-Hardeman. She ranks third in the conference in goals (eight) and points (19) while ranking fifth in points per game (1.8).

Senior goalkeeper Sydney Eads will be in goal for the Phoenix. Eads has been strong in conference play, allowing zero goals through Cumberland's first two conference matches. She was also named the Mid-South Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. Eads leads the conference in saves (38) and shutouts (four), while ranking third in save percentage (.76) and fourth in goals-against average (1.28).

Georgetown enters Thursday's matchup with a 2-4-2 overall record and a 0-2 mark in Mid-South Conference play. The Tigers are coming off an 8-0 loss to No. 3 University of the Cumberlands on Wednesday, September 16. Georgetown ranks sixth in the conference in scoring and shots on goal.

Historically, the Phoenix are 17-3 against the Tigers and have won 13 straight matchups. The two teams have met 20 times since 2005, with Cumberland outscoring Georgetown 47-1 over the last 13 meetings dating back to 2016. The Phoenix are 7-2-1 when playing on the road in Georgetown.
