GEORGETOWN, Ky. – No. 19 Cumberland women's soccer continued its strong start to Mid-South Conference play Thursday night, earning a 3-0 shutout victory over Georgetown at Toyota Stadium.

The Phoenix improved to 8-2-1 overall and a perfect 3-0 in conference play with the win over Georgetown.

Cumberland controlled the match from the opening whistle, outshooting Georgetown 22-0 and recording 12 shots on goal. The Phoenix also earned eight corner kicks while dominating the Tigers who finished the game without a corner.

Ruth Rodriguez opened the scoring in the 17th minute with an outstanding free kick, to give Cumberland a 1-0 advantage.

The Phoenix continued to apply pressure throughout the first half, with goalkeeper Olivia York making several saves to keep Georgetown within striking distance. Cumberland eventually doubled its lead in the 37th minute when Abigale Alexander found the back of the net from distance to make it 2-0 heading into halftime.

Cumberland continued to control possession and create opportunities in the second half. After an impressive run of possession play, Sabrina Barbosa added to the Phoenix lead in the 65th minute, finishing a pass from Alexander to make it 3-0.

Alexander nearly added a second goal moments later, hitting the post in the 68th minute.

The Phoenix defense stayed strong for the remainder of the match, limiting Georgetown to zero shots. Sydney Eads played all 90 minutes in goal and recorded the shutout as Cumberland secured its third consecutive conference victory.

Cumberland returns to action on Tuesday in non-conference play against No. 22 Georgia Gwinnett at Lindsey Donnell Stadium, with kickoff set for 1 PM. This game will be streamed live on the Cumberland Sports Network.
