No. 19 Women’s Soccer Scores Four to Rout the Grizzlies

LEBANON, Tenn. -- The No. 19-ranked Phoenix controlled the match against No. 22 Georgia Gwinnett in a 4-0 win in a midweek matchup at Lindsey Donnell Stadium.

Cumberland improves to 10-2-1 on the season while maintaining a 3-0 conference record.

CU had 14 shot attempts, with eight being on target, while the Phoenix defense stopped all seven shots on target for the Grizzlies. Georgia Gwinnett had a lot more opportunities from the corner flag, earning six corner kicks to the Phoenix's one.

To start the game, Georgia Gwinnett found the first shot on target and put Syndey Eads to the test early. After some more back and forth in the midfield, Adelyn Drane and Sophia Olivera found a give and go opportunity and Olivera buried the shot to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead 16 minutes into the match.

After Eads' second save of the first half, the senior plays the ball ahead and after some chaos outside of the box, Victoria Collins finds her boot on the end of the ball and doubles the Phoenix lead with 10 minutes left in the first half.

Moving to the second half, CU and the Grizzlies traded possession as both teams looked to gain a foothold on the game. That foothold came after Uxia Varela called her own number and added to the Phoenix lead with a shot behind the penalty box getting by the Gwinnett goalkeeper.

Finally, Cumberland put the game to bed after Olivera sent a through ball to Abigale Alexander to make the final score 4-0.

The Phoenix return to Mid-South Conference play as CU hosts No. 12 Lindsey Wilson at 10:00 AM in Lindsey Donnell Stadium.
