OSKALOOSA, Iowa--In a back-and-forth battle between two of the NAIA's top-ranked teams, No. 6 Cumberland and No. 4 William Penn traded goals throughout the afternoon before settling for a 3-3 draw Sunday at Drost Field.

The Phoenix moved to 4-0-1 on the season, while the Statesmen went to 2-0-2.

William Penn struck first in the 27th minute when Gonzalo Rawinad scored off an assist from Ivan Abraira. Cumberland needed just 98 seconds to answer. Oscar Gomez found the equalizer in the 29th minute, finishing a shot that bounced around in the box behind all the defenders.

After a quiet opening stretch to the second half, the action picked up dramatically over the final 17 minutes.

Luis Cerejo put Cumberland in front for the first time with an goal in the 74th minute. William Penn quickly responded as Rawinad scored his second goal of the match less than two minutes later, leveling the score at 2-2.

It looked like William Penn had a chance to take the lead, but a quick counter found David Barbakadze one-on-one with the keeper. He restored the Phoenix advantage in the 81st minute, scoring on Cumberland's next shot to give CU a 3-2 lead. The goal continued Barbakadze's strong start to the season after the forward was named the NAIA Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week earlier in the week.

Once again, the Statesmen found an answer. Jarred Hendricks converted a pass from Rawinad in the 85th minute to produce the final 3-3 score.

William Penn held an 11-8 advantage in shots and placed six attempts on goal compared to Cumberland's four. The Statesmen also finished with a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.

Pau Gelabert recorded three saves in goal for the Phoenix, all coming during the second half. Sil Milder made one save for William Penn.

Cerejo, Gomez, and Barbakadze each scored in the game. Donaldson registered the Phoenix's lone assist.

Cumberland will begin conference play this Saturday as the Phoenix welcomes Bethel into Lindsey Donnell Stadium. The match is slated for a 2:30 start to begin following the women's match.
