Obed Compean brings his services to Cumberland University for the second year, serving as Scott Davidson's assistant coach in the women's soccer program in 2025.
Compean brings to Cumberland a successful track record from a 30-year tenure building and leading soccer organizations at the professional, collegiate, high school, and club levels.
Davidson expressed his excitement about the new addition: "We are excited to add such an experienced coach to our staff. With Obed's coaching experience and knowledge of the game, we are looking forward to seeing the program continue to get stronger!"
The California native is currently the CEO of Nashville Rhythm F.C. in the Women's Premier Soccer League – a club Compean founded in 2016. Under his leadership, Nashville Rhythm F.C. has become an elite powerhouse in the WPSL, achieving a .648 winning percentage and winning the Southeast Conference for three consecutive years. The team has made the postseason each season and, in 2022, became South Region Champions, advancing to the national final four championship series before finishing as national semifinalists.
In addition to his role with Nashville Rhythm F.C., Compean has served as the Associate Head Coach of the varsity girls' soccer team at Father Ryan High School since 2006. During his tenure, the program has won four state championships (2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) and reached the state semifinals in 2013, 2018, and 2019.
In 2013, Compean became the Associate Head Coach for Father Ryan's varsity boys' soccer team, winning a state championship in his first season. The team finished as state finalists in 2021 and 2022. Since 2013, Compean has led both the varsity girls' and boys' programs at Father Ryan.
Compean spent three seasons with the Tennessee Rhythm and Nashville Metros of the USL semi-professional teams from 1999-2001 as a goalkeeper and goalkeeper coach. He then served as head coach and assistant general manager for the Metros' PDL team from 2004-2010.
At the collegiate level, Compean spent five years with the women's soccer program at Trevecca Nazarene University as an assistant coach, goalkeeper coach, and player recruiter. He has worked continuously to help place athletes into collegiate programs and advance amateur players to professional ranks worldwide. Eleven of his former Nashville Rhythm players have advanced to professional soccer in the U.S. and overseas.
Compean has also been involved at the youth level, serving in head coach and director of coaching positions with eight youth clubs in the area from 1997 to 2021.
As a player, Compean competed at the semi-pro level, playing goalkeeper for the Tennessee Rhythm from 1999-2000 and the Nashville Metros from 2000-2001. He also played with the Metro PDL team from 2004-2009.
Compean holds USSF National "E" and "D" licenses, NSCAA National Diploma, NSCAA GK Level 1 & 2 Diplomas, NSCAA Special Topic Course (Striker/GK Certificate), and NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
