Box Score Lebanon, Tenn.-- The Phoenix pick up their fourth conference win with a three set sweep over Georgetown College.
Isabella Curcio had a strong outing on the right side, leading all players with 14 kills and a fantastic .458 attacking percentage. Hazel Konkel and Harlee Kate Reid also had great offensive matches, picking up 9 kills a piece.
The Tigers were led by Gareth Bruce with seven kills in the effort. Kayla Mantell picked up 12 digs for the Tigers.
The Phoenix played consistently well over all three sets, making smart attacking moves and having solid block touches to slow the Tigers down. The Phoenix went back-and-forth for the first few points against the Tigers, but an outstanding swing from Curcio inspired some game-changing energy in Cumberland. The Phoenix were able to run away with the set from that point, keeping a lead that their opponent could never cut into. Cumberland took set one with a score of 25-16.
The Phoenix came out swinging in set two, during which Curcio picked up six of her 14 kills. Cumberland stayed ahead of Georgetown for the entirety of the match, a lead that expanded as far as seven points. Back-to-back kills from Konkel out of the middle sealed the deal for the Phoenix and they cruised past the Tigers with another 25-16 score.
The Tigers fought hard in set three to stay in the game and force a fourth set, but the Phoenix persevered to earn a win. The teams were neck-and-neck until the 8-8 score point, when Reid bounced a ball to earn a Phoenix lead that they held for the remainder of the match. The Tigers threatened the Phoenix advantage on a few occasions, even cutting it down to only two at one point. However, Cumberland ran with the game from the 19-16 point and finished out the match with a six point cushion, 25-19.
Cumberland improves their record to a 4-2 conference and 11-4 overall record. The Phoenix will be back on their home court with a quick turnaround, as they take on the Shawnee State Bears at 1 pm tomorrow.
