Box Score

WILLIAMSBURG, Ky.-- RV Cumberland men's soccer (7-1-2, 4-0-2 MSC) took on the no. 13 Cumberlands Patriots (7-2-3, 4-0-2 MSC) in a road match on Saturday night. The two teams played to a 1-1 draw in the match and remain tied for first place in the conference with 14 points each.

The first half featured a lot of back-and-forth play by both teams, with neither team gaining too much ground on the attack.

The Phoenix best chance to score came with just five minutes left on the clock in the first half after Kam Stanley was tripped up inside the penalty area, giving him a penalty kick opportunity.

Stanley went left and low with the kick, which was played well by the Patriots keeper Pablo Vazquez as he made a big save to keep the match scoreless, heading into the half.

The Phoenix went into the intermission with a 4-2 advantage in shots over the Patriot as well as the lone shot on goal from Stanley. UC, however, committed 12 fouls compared to the six of CU in what was a physical first half of play.

The second half brought plenty of scoring opportunities and periods of very exciting soccer.

The Phoenix broke the seal on the match in the 66th minute of action on a goal from Kam Stanley, assisted by Victor Ramirez. The freshman Ramirez did an excellent job locating some open space before finding Stanley on a cross that he buried right side for the goal.

The Cumberlands struck back quickly just six minutes later, bringing the score to 1-1 after a goal from Rodrigo Riveros in the 72nd minute of action. Both teams played strong defense after the goals to close out the match ensuring a 1-1 draw.

Statistically, the match was very even in terms of offense as the Patriots outshot the Phoenix 10-9. UC also led the way in shots on goal over CU 4-3.

Individually for the Phoenix, Kam Stanley led the way with three shots and the team's lone goal. John Azar, Robbie Lyons, and Victor Ramirez tallied two shots each in the draw, with Ramirez also tallying an assist.

Cumberland heads back to Lebanon to play in their final home regular season match of the season on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 3 p.m. against Thomas More.
