Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Women's Volleyball Takes 3-1 Road Victory Over Bethel

McKenzie, Tenn.-- Cumberland women's volleyball earned their fourth conference victory of the season, topping Bethel on the road. Despite dropping the first set, the Phoenix came home with a 3-1 win.
Neither side of the net showed their strongest attacking capabilities as Cumberland hit a .183 and Bethel ended with a .090 team percentage. These numbers are the result of strong defensive efforts from both sides. Three Phoenix defenders registered double-figure digs as Kaleigh Glass posted 16, followed by Sydney Pearce and Elaine Shaneyfelt with 12 and 10 respectively.
The Wildcats' back row also saw three players hit double-digit dig counts with Dominka Skoneczna matching Glass' 16.
The Wildcats set the first frame in motion with a string of nine unanswered points, forcing the Phoenix to burn a timeout early. The break worked in Cumberland's favor as they immediately connected on their first kill of the set to put an end to Bethel's run.
Cumberland's retaliation was short lived, however, as they were continually plagued by unforced miscues as the set progressed. With an attack error from CU, the Wildcats claimed a big 25-9 victory.
The Phoenix made adjustments on all fronts to make for a competitive second set. After trading points with the Wildcats in the early stages, Cumberland began to assert some dominance with a 5-0 run. The Phoenix continued to roll through the set with confidence to come out on top with a 25-19 win.
As set three unfolded, the teams traded the lead back-and-forth as both sides looked to gain the game's advantage. In the final push, Cumberland made strategic offensive moves for six consecutive points to establish a lead. Kayla Andre ended the set in CU's favor with a tip over the Bethel blockers at 25-17.
The teams battled closely together in the fourth, staying within two points of one another as it progressed. The final push saw all-out defensive moves from the Phoenix that carried them through multiple three point runs, creating separation. Back-to-back kills from CU closed out the game with a 25-18 score.
The Phoenix will have a quick turnaround as they head home for a Saturday match against Freed-Hardeman at 3 PM.
