Women's Volleyball Posts Back-to-Back Sweeps With Win Over Fisk

Nashville, Tenn.-- Cumberland women's volleyball earns their second sweep in a row with a 3-0 victory at Fisk University. The Phoenix stay hot as their win streak extends to three games, avenging their loss to the Bulldogs earlier this season and moving to a winning record.
The Phoenix attackers stole the show as they swung for a .250 team attack percentage, while defensively holding Fisk to just a .048.
Outside hitters Lauren Galvan and Haley Mitchell combined for 23 of Cumberland's 39 kills in the effort with Galvan leading all players with 13. Elaine Shaneyfelt was solid from the back row as she led the Phoenix with 12 digs while also adding a pair of aces.
The teams battled closely together throughout the first set, resulting in a locked game at 20-20. The Phoenix gained all of the momentum in the final push as they rattled off five unanswered points to earn the win.
Cumberland carried every ounce of energy into set two as they continued to impress at the net. The Bulldogs were troubled by offensive errors early and were forced to play catch up as the set unfolded. The Phoenix remained consistent and kept the Bulldogs from finding any runs to cruise to a 25-17 victory.
Cumberland faced a tougher battle in the final set as Fisk fought hard to avoid the sweep. The teams were tied up for large portions of the set as Fisk had a response to all of CU's spurts. The last push saw smart offensive moves from Cumberland's front row as they held on to complete the sweep with a 25-21 score.
