Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Phoenix Top IU South Bend 3-1, Extending Win Streak to Four

South Bend, Ind.-- Women's volleyball keeps their hot streak going with their fourth consecutive win, handling Indiana University South Bend in four sets.
Three Phoenix attackers notched double-figure kills to get the job done with Hazel Konkel and Lauren Galvan earning 12 apiece. Haley Mitchell chipped in ten kills while libero Kaleigh Glass went for a team-high 14 digs.
The Titans had strong defensive showings from multiple players as four defenders impressively captured double-figure digs. Sydney Hanna led the way with a game-high 15, while Abby Weber matched Glass's 14.
In set one, Glass broke a 6-6 deadlock by chipping in three consecutive serves to create separation in Cumberland's favor. The Phoenix used smart offensive moves and clean block coverage to maintain the lead as play unfolded.
By the set's end, Cumberland connected on ten swings while holding the Titans to just four total kills. With a deep roll shot from Galvan, the Phoenix captured a 25-19 win.
IU South Bend was forced to burn an early timeout as CU opened the second with a four point run, during which Elaine Shaneyfelt notched back-to-back aces. The break proved to be worthwhile for the Titans as it sparked a 5-2 run to chip away at Cumberland's margin.
Nearing the final stretch, Cumberland committed four consecutive unforced errors to help the Titans take their first lead at 15-14. At 20-20, the Phoenix registered three kills in the final seven points to win the battle with just a three point difference.
With both sides of the court having established grooves, set three played out in a back-and-forth style which resulted in ten ties in the first 22 points.
The Titans broke the set open around the halfway mark as they rattled off four unanswered points to send Cumberland into a break. Despite coming out of the timeout with a kill from Mitchell, the Phoenix were unable to match any of ISBU's runs and they fell behind by as many as seven.
The Titans ended the set hitting a .275, largely contributing to their 25-22 win. The Phoenix were held to just a .077 as they relied heavily on their defense to stay in the match.
The Titans carried their energy into set four with a 3-0 start, but the Phoenix made a timely recovery to head into another point-for-point fight.
Facing an 18-18 stalemate, the Phoenix collected three consecutive points in the largest run by either side all set long. With the help of two blocks from Kayla Andre and Mitchell's tenth kill of the game, the Phoenix cruised to their fourth straight victory.
Cumberland will stay on the road as they head to Lima, Ohio for a tri-match. The Phoenix will take on Aquinas College tomorrow at 1 PM and then have a quick turnaround for a 3 PM match with Northwestern Ohio.
