Konkel's Outstanding Offense Sends CU Over the Tigers, 3-0

Georgetown, Ky.-- Cumberland women's volleyball ends their regular-season campaign on a three game hot streak, taking down the Georgetown Tigers in a 3-0 decision.
Hazel Konkel stole the show with consistent attacking efforts through all three sets, connecting on all ten of her attempts to earn a perfect 1.000%. Libero Kaleigh Glass had another solid match, picking up 15 of Cumberland's 32 digs to lead all players.
The Phoenix collected six consecutive points to open the first frame and they remained steady on the gas as the set progressed. Successful attacks and minimal errors aided Cumberland's .476 attack percentage and 25-14 victory.
Cumberland's momentum carried into set two as an early 5-0 run pushed them ahead of the Tigers. The Phoenix controlled the lead down the stretch despite tripling their first set errors and widened the margin by as many as six points. In the final push, the Tigers hit a four point stride to make for an interesting ending. Lauren Galvan tooled the block in the final play, awarding CU the 25-23 win. 
The Tigers' spark transferred over into the final set as they looked to avoid the sweep with a 3-0 start. The Phoenix made a swift recovery, however, and rallied off five straight to reestablish their dominance. Trailing 17-9, the Tigers muscled their way through a string of seven points to make it a one point game. After recollecting in a timeout, the Phoenix made another timely counterattack and held on strong to complete the sweep with a 25-18 score.
The Phoenix will head to Bowling Green, Kentucky on November 9 as the Mid-South Conference Championships kick off. More tournament information is still to come.
